WordPress revolutionized the website industry. Without it, we’d all be using GoDaddy’s site builder, or proprietary software from companies, who would charge us for using their framework.

Luckily, WordPress is the most widely used in the world, and it’s open source. Which is why most business and blog websites use WordPress. With more developer contribution than any other, it is also the most robust website platform.

Because it is open source, and you get complete ownership of your website, it also requires a developer’s help to build and maintain.

In some cases WordPress websites can become very complex. Requiring top design and developer talent in order to produce.

What is a content management system?

WordPress is a content management system(CMS) - a software for managing content, such as webpages, or blog posts.

Comparisons to WordPress are platforms like Shopify, Squarespace, or most other website builders.

Different from Shopify and Squarespace, WordPress is free to own and customize in every way. A major strength in it is being able to customize the platform for a business, and having 100% ownership of the software.

According to data from W3Techs, WordPress is used by 43.2% of all websites on the internet in 2022.
